May 2020 NPD Video Game Sales Results –

The market for video games continues to grow this year and May 2020 is one of the best years in history. Total monthly sales were $977 million compared to $642 million in the previous year, a massive 52% increase over the previous year. All sectors have experienced growth: Playground equipment increased by 56%, software by 67% and accessories and playing cards by 32%. According to NDP analyst Matt Piscatella, this was the highest spending in May since 2008, when $1.2 billion was spent thanks to the release of Mario Kart Wii a month earlier and GTA 4. The year 2020 is slightly behind 2011, where spending so far totalled $5.7 billion, compared to $5.5 billion in 2020.

What sold so well in May 2020? Most of the 20 programmes sold are open-ended. You have to go all the way to the end of page 14 before you can see the new version, which is nothing but Chronicles of Xenoblade : A specific question for change. Speaking of Nintendo: The switchboard again became the best selling hardware platform of the month, both in terms of quantity and dollar price. To see that the system sells more in a month than the conversion that was the Nintendo DS, you have to go until May 2009. Turnover in US dollars is the highest in US history and even surpassed that of the Wii console in 2008.

What’s more, Nintendo’s first games didn’t include digital sales for the parties, so some games could have been even more important if they had been reported.
