How to Catch Fish in Valheim

You may notice that there are fish in Valheim, which usually swim in certain places in the water, and it seems that you can fish in the wild.

Either you are wondering if you know how to fish, or you have already found the fishing rod in the game. Fishing in Walheim can be a bit tricky for others.

For a short period of time, fishing can give you raw fish that you can then cook and use, which will increase your health, regeneration and stamina.

Where can I get a rod and bait?

Right now, there is only one place you can get a rod and matching bait, and that is at a Haldor dealer.

It may take you a while to find Haldor if you don’t explore, but eventually you will find him if you are in the area, because his icon will appear on your map.

A fishing rod can be purchased from a merchant for 350 gold pieces, while a lure costs 10 gold pieces for 50 pieces.

How do you fish in Walheim?

To fish in Walheim, all you have to do is go to a body of water where you can catch fish. However, you can tell if you can catch fish when you see them swimming in the water.

You can’t fish in all waters, and if you want to catch fish, it’s better to go to the Great Lakes or the ocean.

Once you find a good spot, cast your line out (hold down the left mouse button to increase the range) to about 18-25 feet and wait for the fish to bite.

You’ll notice that the fish bites because it splashes and your reel goes underwater, and that’s exactly when you should reel it in (by holding down the right mouse button).

Once you have timed it successfully (you must right-click when a splash appears), the message “Hooked” appears and you must reel in the fish.

Make sure you have enough stamina, because the fish get exhausted when you bring them in, and if you lose all your stamina, the fish will escape.

Keep pulling the fish toward you and eventually, if you have stamina, pull the fish out of the water and pick it up.

Fishing areas

There are many places to fish, but it is best to concentrate on a large body of water, such as a large lake or the edge of an island, and stay in safe areas, such as Biome Meadows.

Later, you can also fish with a raft, caravan or rowboat, or you can fish alone from your island.

One way to know if a place guarantees that you can catch fish there is to often see fish swimming around. Just keep in mind that you should cast your line for the best chance, rather than trying to catch the fish you see swimming near the bank.

Used fish

The main reason to fish is that it gives you raw fish that you can process into two different types of food, cooked fish or fish packages.

Boiled fish gives you 45 health points and 25 stamina points, and allows you to recover 2 health points per tick.

Fish wraps are more useful after that, as they give you 90 of stamina, 60 of health and a regeneration rate of 4 of health per tick.

Judgment

Most players find it difficult to know how to fish in Walheim after they purchase a rod, especially as they try to catch fish close to the bank.

It’s best to cast the line further out and wait for the fish to bite before reeling it in, which can usually take between 30 seconds and a minute.

Stocking up on fish for later can be a good way to provide you with good food.
