As a sports player, some of my best memories are playing RBI baseball on the NES. In recent years, the brand has returned to mixed results at best – probably in the hope that unsuspecting buyers will recognize the name and make an impulse purchase. So far, there hasn’t been a truly fantastic performance from America’s favorite pastime on Switch with Super Mega Baseball 2. It gave me an idea of what I’ve been missing since the NES – a fun, easy-to-play baseball game that’s perfect for travel or at home on a big screen. For RBI baseball, he’s in the same league as this one.

This title was released on Xbox One last year and has been praised by sports gamers. I may have played it once or twice for a few minutes, but I never really gave it a chance because a lot of other games and life got in the way. In a way, I’m glad I missed it the first time around, because this game is fantastic on the Switch. The developers say it can hold 60 frames per second on both the dock and handhelds, and as far as I know, I believe them! This game is as smooth as butter and looks really great. In fact, the only glaring omission in terms of presentation is the absence of voice-over commentary, which is present in other sports.

But of course I’m not excited about playing the Switch just for the technical aspects (I liked them). Actually, it’s just a really fun baseball game. Like many great games released over the years, this series has controls that can be described as easy to understand but difficult to master. I appreciate the flexibility of the difficulty modes, which allow beginners to get help getting the ball into the outfield and keeping shots in the strike zone so you can really get into the rhythm. Of course, once you get the hang of it, you’ll want to move on to a more complex position where you’ll be responsible for all the controls that require a more thorough examination of the board of directors.

Setup is the name of the game in Super Mega Baseball 2. There are several options available, including exhibition, season, playoffs and online games. The online game can be played by up to 4 people, 2 against 2, and there is even a very cool mode where you and a friend can compete against each other on the computer (local or online). I spent most of my time playing offline, but it’s nice to see a full set of features in this game. Playoffs and seasons can be adjusted at will, including the number of games per playoff round. But what impressed me the most was the season mode and the ability to play up to 200 games in one season!

Adaptation takes place not only in the modes, but also in the controls themselves. You can create your own team and players or customize the players already in the game. I began working with some of my former baseball teammates and acquaintances, which added a personal touch to my playing sessions. Moreover, the players are both women and men – another thoughtful inclusion.

Get ready to have fun and play however you want. When you add it all up, Super Mega Baseball 2 is a true godsend. This is the best baseball game on the Switch and competes with the more traditional games from other consoles. The big problem, of course, is the lack of an MLB license, and while that would be the icing on the cake, it’s hard to complain when the game is this much fun. In fact, it has become one of my favorite games on the Switch!

Final thoughts : EXAMPLES

Super Mega Baseball 2 has arrived on the Switch, and it was worth the wait. It’s the best baseball game in the system, and being able to start the season on my TV and then take it on the road is something I dreamed about years ago when I played RBI baseball on the NES.

Ben has loved playing since the NES, but it wasn’t until the introduction of the PS2 that he started making a hobby of it. In addition to writing regular reviews, he is a regular member of the podcast.
