Super Mario is the name of a series of games developed by Nintendo. The series is also called Super Mario Bros., which is an abbreviation of Super Mario Brothers. The Super Mario series began in 1985 with the first release of the game. Super Mario Brothers was a big success. But the game itself was already on the shoulders of its predecessor – Mario Brothers.
Main character: Mario
The games have a common character called Mario, who became the mascot of the Super Mario series and has also been part of a large collection of derivative games over the years. Mario was created by video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario’s first goal was to play in Donkey Kong, and Mario made his debut in 1981 with the release of the game. Mario kept playing the lead role in Mario Brothers when he got a lead role. From that point on, Mario became the main character in the Super Mario series. Since then, Mario has appeared in many different Nintendo games, some of which are dedicated to a Mario character and others to other Mario characters.
Mario was originally created for Doni Kong.
Although Mario was made for Donkey Kong, it has become known worldwide and is usually associated with the Super Mario series.
These old Mario games were very popular back then and are still very popular today. Many players are still looking for online Mario games because the characters are so attractive and the game is so much fun. Most of these games allow older Mario brothers to play online for free if you know where to look. If you have not tried it yet, you have to – it’s amazing how exciting these old Mario games are, even with simple graphics, compared to similar games released recently.
In this article, we look at how the Super Mario series came about and how it has evolved over time. We cover everything from the original Mario Bros. game to the latest creations, including New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Mario Maker 2, released in 2019.
Let’s look at this fact first: Super Mario Brothers was first released in 1985. The last new edition appeared this year in 2019. This means that the Super Mario series has been in development for 34 years. Have you ever heard of another console game that has been popular for over 30 years? We didn’t find it and, frankly, we just found it incredible.
This shows how much the brand and icon of Mario has become and how attractive the world of Super Mario is for today’s generation of children (and adults).
The Mario brothers.
Mario Bros. is the original version of Nintendo released in 1983. Secondly, the game itself was very simple, there was nothing to shout about in the graphics. The prequel was also quite simple – Mario was an Italian-American plumber who travelled through the sewers with his brother Luigi and beat the bad guys. It was released in arcade format and also in a console version for the then popular Nintendo system – Nintendo Entertainment System or NES for short.
Super Mario Brothers.
It was the first release of Nintendo’s most popular series. It was the original Super Mario Bros. game that caused all the hype, and people look at it as if the original Super Mario Bros. game was released simultaneously in Japan in 1985 and North America in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). A little later it was published in Europe – in 1987 to be precise.
Super Mario was installed in a very simple 2D world consisting mainly of flat ground and blue sky. The world was complicated by pipes and boxes and many bad guys. The idea was very simple: as a player, you control Mario and move him around the world, killing bad guys and collecting various treasures in boxes. Usually, these boxes were hung in the air, and Mario would jump under them and even bend his head over them. This action would reveal what was hidden inside. Sometimes it’s a coin that complements your collection, and sometimes it’s a special power like a mushroom that gives you extra life.
There were always a lot of whistles in the game. Some of them hid the bad guys who suddenly appeared and tried to kill Mario or Luigi depending on which character you were playing. However, sometimes the pipes turned out to be chain pipes and transported your character to a hidden part of the game where there were special prizes. For example, sometimes you will be taken to a hidden camera filled with collectible gold coins.
At the end of each level, you can record your progress by passing and picking up a flag, after which you’ll move on to the next part of the game.
Brothers Super Mario… : Lost levels
The movie Super Mario Brothers was released in 1986. Levels lost. It was a game that was very similar to the original. The concept was the same – Mario and Luigi had to rescue the princess of Bowser, the evil character in both games. The big difference with this game was the difficulty – it was much harder to play than the original. It has 32 levels of complexity, and in each of them there are many more problems to solve. For example, in The Lost Levels you’ll come across bad prizes in some prize fields, but also deformation pipes that make you move backwards in the game, not forwards. That’s why you had to choose carefully whether or not you wanted to receive prizes, and be careful if you decided to join the chains.
Super Mario Brothers. 2
Super Mario Bros. 2 was released for North America in 1988 and for Europe in 1999. Although Super Mario 2 is still in 2D, it was really different from the original Super Mario game. There were many new enemies to fight and many new prizes and other things to collect. There are also many new features, such as the ability to pick up and throw different objects.
The game had 20 different levels spread over 7 worlds. In order to progress in the game, you had to go through the levels successfully, one after the other. When you play the game, you start with 3 lives, which you lose one after the other if you are killed by the enemy or if you fall from the end of the world. There are several ways to take an extra life, for example by collecting hidden 1-Up mushrooms. When you lose your whole life, the game stops and forces you to start again.
Super Mario Brothers. 3
Around the same time, Super Mario Bros. came out. 3 – 1998 for Japan and 1990 for North America. The concept of Super Mario 3 hasn’t changed much compared to previous games, although there are new characters and additional gameplay features.
One of the main features of Super Mario 3 was the fact that Mario can now fly – at least with a few extra bonuses. It really added a new element to the game and made it more exciting than ever.
The game itself was divided into 8 worlds, each containing different levels to be played one after the other.
Country of Super Mario
In 1989, Nintendo released Super Mario Land. Super Mario Land was released for the Nintendo Game Boy, a handheld game system. The Game Boy had a built-in screen and controller in one device and was a handheld game device that was very popular when Super Mario Land was released.
The concept of Super Mario Land was very similar to previous Super Mario games, but it was designed specifically for mobile devices and especially for small screens. Although the graphics of this game weren’t great, the plot of the game was fantastic, as were the characters. Super Mario Land was extremely addictive, and while it was really hard to finish it, you felt you had to keep playing it until the end of the game.
Super Mario World
Super Mario World was released in 1990 for the SNES, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game consisted of 72 levels arranged on a world map. This was a new concept in itself, as previous Mario games had separate stages in different worlds.
Having only one card to draw made it easier to follow your progress through the game, and made it more exciting than ever. In fact, it was so good that you often went back to levels that had already been completed, only to finish them off again and perhaps recover the hidden treasures that had eluded you before. Or go back and see some of the bad guys you missed the first time.
Country of Super Mario 2: 6 Gold coins
In 1992, Nintendo released Super Mario Land 2: 6 Gold Coins out. This release is the first time Mario’s new enemy, Vario, has appeared. In this game Vario conquered Mario’s castle and then demanded that Mario collect six gold tokens to get his castle back from Vario.
The game consists of 32 levels, which are located in different worlds. Each level has its own mini-game at the end, and each world has its own boss. To reach the other world, you have to beat the boss at the end of the previous world.
Super Mario All Stars
Nintendo released Super Mario All-Stars, a collection of several other platform games, in 1993. This compilation was specially released for the SNES and included re-releases of Super Mario Bros. the lost levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3.
World of Super Mario 2: Yoshi Island
Released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. The game is sometimes simply called Yoshie Island, and it features a Yoshie star, a fictitious green dinosaur. Yoshi has excellent skills that allow him to easily defeat bad guys – he’s usually very fast in his moves, very good at jumping and can eat both prizes and enemies by picking them up and throwing them in his mouth with his unusually long tongue.
Super Mario 64
The release of Super Mario 64 in 1996 marked a turning point for Nintendo. Super Mario 64 was the first game in the Super Mario series to be made in 3D. Yay, no more 2D games for Mario. This 3D version of the popular game was released for the Nintendo 64, a 3D system that was much more powerful than the previous one and that promised new and stunning graphics from the start.
In Super Mario 64, the player’s goal is to collect the legendary stars that appear after completing tasks. The Power Stars collection will unlock jobs and new playing fields. Because the game was in 3D, and thanks to the new analogue pen controls, it was possible to move Mario in all directions and with much greater accuracy than in the previous 2D versions of Super Mario.
In total there are 105 Power Stars, of which 15 are hidden in the castle. The game bonuses are different from the previous ones, there are now three different hats with a temporary force: The Wing Cap, which allows Mario to fly, the Metal Cap, which turns him into metal, and the Vanished Cap, which allows him to overcome obstacles.
Super Mario Brothers. Deluxe
Released in 1999, this version of Super Mario was specially designed for Game Boy Color. Although the Deluxe remake was based on the original Super Mario Bros. game, a few additional elements have been added. In particular, the Deluxe version of the game features simultaneous multiplayer capabilities, a test mode in which you must find hidden objects and score a certain amount to pass the levels, and 8 additional worlds.
Super Mario Progress
Super Mario Advance was released by Nintendo in 2001 and was a variant of Super Mario Bros. 2. In addition to being based on Super Mario 2, Super Mario Advance was also considered a remake of Super Mario All-Stars.
Super Mario Progress 2: Super Mario World
Super Mario Advance 2 was released in 2001 and was a remake of the original Super Mario world. This remake of the original game was specially released for the Game Boy Advance handheld console. The game, the plot and the characteristics were very similar to the original game.

The game contains a series of levels accessible from the center of Delfino Square. Mario travels through each level, picking up Sprites or Shining on the way and performing various tasks. In Super Mario Sunshine, you can see the last of Bowser’s eight children. Bowser Jr. becomes Mario’s main enemy in this game and tries to prevent you from completing each level.
Super Mario Progress 3: Yoshi Island
Yoshie Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (or Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island) is a remake of Super Mario World 2 : The island of Yoshis. It was mainly released as a game specifically for the Game Boy Advance. It was also the only new edition of the Yoshie Island series.
