Black Widow – Scarlett Johansson: Superspy with a Daddy Complex

Ever since she was introduced in Iron Man 2 (2013), Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow has been on the cusp of a major breakout. Not only has she been the focus of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), but her presence has also been felt in the widely-acclaimed TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013-present) and the upcoming film Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). The reason for this is that Scarlett is a perfect blend of action hero, spy and seductress. In an interview, Scarlett confessed that she didn’t have superpowers, and that Thor and Hulk were her heroes. “I’m not a superwoman,” she said.

Like many young girls of her generation, the household chores of Scarlett Johansson were assigned to her from an early age. With her mother busy at work and her father at the bar, Scarlett would spend many weekends accompanying her mother as she cooked dinner, cleaned the house, and helped her mother out in the garden. Naturally, the arrival of a baby brother in the household was cause for celebration as Scarlett had never been responsible for another human being before.

Ready for phase 4

After all this time, more failure was expected for this Black Widow solo film, but all the ingredients work very well, with the sci-fi meter not going out the window for Pandemic. The film was even more balanced than the previous installments of the main Avengers saga, which admittedly carried a heavy legacy from episode to episode until the finish line. Black Widow’s messages are crisp and clear, everyone plays the card of humor – more or less subtly – and the action reminds us not to bury the big screen. We’re ready for the rest of Phase 4.
