In this article, I’ll be going over the best D&D games for the Nintendo Switch in the future. I’ll be looking at the future of the Switch, and whether its future will be as big as its past has been. I’ll also be looking at the future of D&D on the Switch, and the most likely games to make it to Switch in the future.
After a long absence, D&D is making a comeback at the end of 2021! You can expect a lot of exciting new content and features coming to the game, including the first official Dungeons & Dragons game on a Nintendo platform. The Switch is currently the best-selling console of all time, and we expect this to continue to be true for years to come. We will also be supporting the game with accessories and accessories add-ons, on top of our usual sales and promotions.
* Updated for 2021. After playing the Switch a lot, I’ve put together a list of the best dnd games for switch, including all the best RPGs for the system.
If you want to experience Dungeons and Dragons on your Nintendo Switch, you’re in luck: There have been many excellent D&D games released on Switch in recent years, and we recommend the best of them.
Some of these games have been around for a while, but they are usually in good shape and recent on Steam. Moreover, the controls have been revamped and work perfectly, so you can have a complete and stress-free Dungeons and Dragons gaming experience.
And if you prefer real dice, be sure to check out our article on the best Dungeons and Dragons dice games to own.

Divinity Original sin 2
One of the best RPGs of all time and the best chance to have a great complete Dungeons & Dragons experience on Switch.
This turn-based RPG has been around for years, and the first game in the series is not available on Switch – but at the same time, you don’t need to play it to fully enjoy DOS2.
I would say that once you start playing this game, you will never need another!

for King
Few, if any, people recommend it, but that’s probably because it’s unfortunately stayed under the radar. But this is the most traditional Dungeons & Dragons game available on Switch, not the one recommended above.
A turn-based RPG with roguelike elements (when characters die, they stay dead) and a lot of fluff on the table, despite the cartoonish visuals and seemingly laid-back nature. Trust me, this is a purely casual game, and you will find it challenging even on the easy level.
Like the real D&D, this game is best played with a friend – it offers local and online collaboration – so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. But don’t hesitate to try it!

Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 (Improved Edition)
This package offers an enhanced edition of both games, with over 200 hours of high-quality gameplay. And since these are the official Dungeons and Dragons games set in the Realms, you know you’re in for something.
While these games have been around for a long time, they are relatively new to the Switch lineup and have held up pretty well. They don’t look as good as more modern games, but the experience itself is great and definitely worth a try.

Planescape Torment & Icewind Dale
Both games are sold as a bundle, which means you’ll receive both games whether you want them or not. I recommend them both, so it’s not a big loss.
It’s just that the two games are very different in approach. Icewind Dale focuses more on combat and Planescape Torment on storytelling. But the two work well together, and I’m sure any D&D fan will enjoy both.
I must admit that unlike the vast majority of players, I enjoyed Icewind Dale more than Planescape Torment.
Also remember that both of these games were released in 1999 and 2000, so they seem a bit dated.

Pillars of perpetuity
You know this game is DnD, because it’s considered the spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. In other words, it’s very similar to these games. So if you love those games, you’ll definitely love this one.
I think the beauty of this game is that it is very current, giving you extra openings and fun mechanics.
The sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is currently only available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but don’t forget that a sequel is coming later this year, so you still have time to play and get the original by then!
The game is only available as a digital download. But, you can pre-order Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire on Amazon.
Wizard of the Mountain of Fire
If you’re looking for a really good Dungeons and Dragons board game in the vein of the classic D&D board game Wrath of Ashardalon and co, then The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is the perfect choice.
The only downside is that it’s only playable in solo mode….. But with each character offering a different experience and many different paths, you’re in for a really solid tabletop experience.
The game is only available as a digital download.
Knight of the pen and paper 2
The screenshots may not look like it, but it’s essentially a D&D metagame with pixelated graphics and a truly unique style.
Yes, it’s a bit childish and silly, with a million pop references, but there are also dynamically generated dungeons and plenty of heroes to recruit, send into battle and equip with even more items. A truly amazing experience!
You can download the game here.
Neverwinter Nights
Many would put the awesome Neverwinter Nights at the top of the list, along with Baldur’s Gate and the like, but personally I think its place on the list is much lower right now.
Not because Neverwinter Nights is a bad game or won’t give you a good Dungeons and Dragons experience on Switch (or wherever you want to play it), but because it’s the worst aged of all the classic games I’ve recommended.
If you’ve played the game in the past, like me, and amassed hundreds of hours of gameplay, it won’t look out of place and you’ll enjoy it on Switch just as much as you did on your old PC. But if you are a new player who has never tried this game before, you might be a little disappointed because it is not very well maintained.

Held-U: Tramp for Redemption
This is a tough recommendation because this is probably the least D&D-intensive game on this list – at least in the traditional sense. But somehow it still feels like Dungeons and Dragons. After all, there are many dungeons.
But this is not a pure RPG, on the contrary! It is a mix of adventure RPG in the spirit of the classic Quest for Glory games. They were actually made by the same people, which makes sense!
But if you want to focus more on the story and storyline of Dungeons & Dragons, on how you solve puzzles and interact with various objects, and less on the combat (although there are plenty of those too), then you really should give this game a chance.
You can download the game here.
Darkest Dungeon
Another game reminiscent of D&D, but not really designed with Dungeons and Dragons in mind (or so it seems anyway).
But thanks to the roguelike elements, the insane RNG throws, and the many characters with flaws and limited lives, it’s a great dungeon crawler with a pretty unique approach to the genre. And yes, you’ll probably enjoy playing it if you’re looking for something similar to D&D on Switch.
Buy the game digitally or buy a physical copy on Amazon.
Conclusion
You could say that almost every RPG and dungeon is more or less similar to Dungeons & Dragons, but in today’s article I want to share with you the best games you can play this year that were developed with D&D in mind (or at least were heavily inspired by it).
While most of these games are older, they are at least somewhat current for the Switch. Even if you’ve already played it, you can play it again on your Nintendo system. But start with the ones you haven’t played yet, because they’re all great and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
Are there any other games similar to Dungeons & Dragons on Switch that should have made my list? Tell us by commenting below! For the past few weeks, the Switch has been the hottest selling console in the world. With a hard drive, USB-C support, and other fancy features, the system has transformed from a failed experiment into a legitimate platform. While the Switch will forever live in the shadow of the Wii U, it is still a worthy purchase and if you have the space for it, it is worth it. However, since the Switch is a portable system, those interested in playing the games on the go should be aware that the games are not designed to be played on the television..
