What is this peaceful city builder? Well, it has a relaxing music, a unique style, a wonderful color scheme, and much more. The game stars a white cat, who is your character in the game, and he or she moves around a city, trying to help happiness, and money, the two main resources in the game.

The first thing you notice about “Before We Leave Review 2021” is its unique style. It looks like a relaxing city builder, but not one you could easily compare to the likes of “SimCity”, “SimCity 4”, or “SimCity Societies”. Its style was inspired by the actual city of Kigali, Rwanda, where the game was developed. Though the city of Kigali itself is home to over 2.3 million people, the city of Kigali was the third-most populous city in the country, behind the capital city of Kigali.

Before We Leave is a relaxing city building game with an interesting design. Build your city and watch how it grows by living in it. Buy houses, parks and more and build your city the way you want. It’s an easy-to-play city builder with a unique style.

Before We Leave is one of the most relaxing games I’ve ever played. Thanks to the hexagonal design of the buildings and the emphasis on relaxed gameplay, I can sink into a comfortable sloop and spend hours building my city without thinking. As with many city building games, you can speed up or slow down time to set your own pace. If you want to run lightning fast through a fairly simple technology tree, you can. But honestly, that’s not even necessary because there’s no emphasis on time here, it reminds me a bit of Animal Crossing New Horizons, you can do everything at your own pace without being punished if you go too fast or too slow. The graphics are a bit cartoonish, but in a good way. Every time I see one of my people, I’m reminded of Terrance and Philip from South Park. One minute I can be looking at a game and wishing it was a little more detailed, and the next I can be looking at my city with the setting sun in the background and thinking it’s fantastic.

Steam is oversaturated with city builders, from popular behemoths like Cities Skylines to single player games like Kingdoms Reborn. While they sometimes seem to succeed and sometimes fail, the truth is that few are unique enough to stand out from the crowd. Before We Leave is a unique urban design. Firstly, the simplicity of the gameplay works in its favour; it doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, it just gives us a solid, fun and relaxing game. You can certainly work to improve your logistics, find better ways to speed up deliveries, but honestly, it won’t make much difference if you don’t.

Another feature of Before We Leave is its lack of menace. There are no AIs to harm you, no enemy armies, and the entire game is played in a serene environment, with no worries or threats. Aside from a giant space whale devouring the world, you have nothing to fear. You simply rebuild the world after the fall of a civilization, using the environment to gather resources and rebuild.

Much of the game consists of exploration, building ships and searching for other islands, as well as rebuilding spaceships to explore other planets and continue expansion beyond the world. Each island or map has its own unique conditions, meaning that certain buildings, such as an orchard, may grow in one environment and not in another. So in some cases you will have trouble finding resources until you can get more land.

With the many islands and planets, micromanaging in Before We Leave becomes quite difficult, but luckily you can create shipping routes to get your goods from one island to another. Finally, when you take the first big step for humanity and start colonizing another planet, you will also be able to build space lanes that will allow you to transport goods from your islands to another planet. If you thought resource management was hard in a regular RTS, then you haven’t seen anything until you try to manage resources on multiple islands, on multiple planets – it’s a real challenge, and a big one before you go. When building shipping lanes, players can choose to ship goods manually or build permanent lanes that can transport many goods between islands. You can set a target limit on the number of items to send, or just leave it infinite. Since each island has its own environment, it makes sense to prioritize certain goods on each island and only ship them between your islands.

Summary before departure

On paper everything is simple, but as the game progresses it becomes a huge task to manage resources, keep different islands and planets running and keep people happy. Before we began our investigation, I made sure that there were no real threats, aggressive beings or artificial intelligence involved, and that we would be playing all alone in this vast universe. So I had low expectations, which I was delighted to see exceeded by an excellent game. It’s amazing to watch your islands evolve from the first island with a few people coming out of their bunker to an intergalactic shopping mall bursting with life. Before we leave is the perfect relaxation game, even though it’s a relaxation game it still has challenges that make it more interesting, but often in these games we see challenges that honestly become more boring than fun, but in Before we leave I didn’t find that to be the case.
