Showdown at Frogtown Winning Lists! [August 2021]

The end is finally here – Frogtown has been shut down. After a long and storied run, Frogtown has finally reached its conclusion. Can you believe that after all these years, the greatest game of the century has finally come to an end? How it all started …

If you’re a regular reader of Undergrowth Games, you know that I’ve been slowly working on a project called Frogtown, which is a tabletop RPG I designed for the group I’m in. One of the cool things about the game is the way it uses a realistic, GURPS-like system that’s based on the mathematical probability of events. And, because Frogtown uses a similar system to the one in GURPS, my friends and I have been able to use Frogtown as a gaming system for all sorts of other things. A couple of months ago, we created a virtual tabletop app that uses Frogtown to play games with a whole bunch of other people; this is where the “Showdown at Frogtown” comes

As the Showdown at Frogtown in Toledo, Ohio gained ITC Major classification, a large number of players traveled there for some competitive Warhammer 40K tournament action.

The Admech Nerfs’ third round was released on Friday, thus they were most likely not in effect for this weekend’s GT.

Even though Admech was played before the nerf, they didn’t win since Brad Chester surged ahead of everyone as the only unbeaten player. Drukhari hasn’t changed his ways.

Winning List for the Frogtown Showdown:

Drukhari move quickly. Even faster with Hypex for a basic 20” motion and an auto advance of 8”. The Cult of Strife addition included extra mobility antics, as well as warlord and relic trickery, which will be seen throughout the army.

Of course, the characters are all very dangerous. When the Dark Lotus poison is combined with Adrenalight, Precision Blows, and Razorflails, the charge has 14 attacks, and each hit roll of a 6 results in two fatal wounds. All of this for the bargain price of 60 points. But wait, there’s more: this list also includes additional lethal characters.

The Mandrakes may be deployed defensively beyond their deployment zone to restrict where drop pods and Sicaran Infiltrators can land, but they are best suited as action monkeys because to their ability to return to reserve. Furthermore, any unit stationed near the Drukhari may be utilized as a launching pad for the army as it advances.

Perhaps the most difficult thing for armies to handle with is how this army can avoid falling back, and why people will continue to take Lucius in order to utilize Solar Flare to withdraw from battle.

One potential strategy is to utilize the Court of the Archon and Hellion squads as To The Last troops, although as ten-man squads, the Hellions may not be the greatest secondary option, particularly given Drukhari’s unique secondary abilities and speed. 

2nd Place List at Frogtown Showdown

With a draw round 3, Matt Estrada was halted in the middle of his jump. With four victories, though, they were able to finish in second position. Any 4-1 player would immediately be relegated to the position of 4-0-1.

Review of the Showdown 2nd Place List

Mr Estrada bypassed the Veteran cohort to add two Manipulus to his roster. This gave him both Logi and Artisans, giving him two options for fallback and shooting, as well as one very tough core unit. While this will no longer be an issue for the Laser Chickens, it will remain important for the different teams.

With so many tiny teams, scores and actions are simple to accomplish.

When flying over a squad of 2 or more Chicken Walkers, take notice of the Fusilaves, since they average 5 fatal wounds apiece.

Finally, the Rust Stalkers are tough and have a lot of hit points. On a 6, there is the possibility of fatal wounds, but the relic the Princess stole also enables for explosive 6s to strike. They may mulch in battle since they’re stacked with assassin constructions for additional strikes. The Fire Point Telemetry Cache is what makes them so difficult. They have a 0+ save with 4+ armor and +1 against damage (one for Lucius dogma, +1 for wasteland stalker, +1 light Cover through the Cache, and another +1 for being entirely on terrain via the Cache). One vs Damage. As a result of the Lucius errata, this unit now has a 1+ against ranged assaults.

With Mars, Tom Ogden came in third.

You may as well lose to the champion if you’re going to lose. Or, in this instance, Mr. Ogden lost to Matt Estrada, who finished second, by just 5 points.

3rd Place List Review at Frogtown Showdown

You’ll note that Mr. Ogden chose not to carry data tethers in the squad, instead relying on the vehicles to distribute data tethers if a nearby planned retreat is available.

There are lots of troops to test out the new stratagems as the renowned Skitarii army. The Ironstriders’ hit efficiency will drop somewhat in the future, but as Mars, you may reroll both the Canticles and the Mars ideology.

When the Remorseless Fist chant is engaged for a large number of strikes, be aware that the Vanguard will reduce your toughness. Take that T4 once again, Orks.

It will be difficult to conceal from this army with the Fusilaves’ explosives and the two Belleros Energy guns.
