Overwatch 2 seems to be the most recent sequel in the official Overwatch franchise. According to a number of sources, the sequel is currently in the works, and could release as soon as 2023. The only real detail regarding the game is that it is to be developed by Blizzard.

Overwatch 2, called Overwatch 2023, has been the subject of speculation since it was first rumored to be in development last year. However, Blizzard has remained tight-lipped about the game, and the latest rumors suggest the sequel will be released in 2023, rather than earlier than expected.

Blizzard Entertainment’s “Overwatch” is one of the most popular games ever created, and is still going strong after its first release. A sequel to the acclaimed game is rumored to be in the works for years, and the game’s official Twitter account has been hinting at this for some time.. Blizzard unveiled Overwatch 2 in November 2019, a follow-up to the 2016 team-based multiplayer shooter that became popular due to its simplicity of entry and colorful array of anime-inspired characters known as “heroes,” each with their own set of skills. However, it may be much over a year before anybody can play the game.

Overwatch 2’s development is going at much too sluggish a rate, according to Overwatch streamer Metro OW’s sources, for a 2022 release date. The assumption is that Overwatch 2 won’t be released until at least 2023.

This is an issue for Overwatch fans who have stuck with the game and aren’t simply waiting for it to come out, since the franchise’s creators have allegedly discontinued most support for the original 2016 game in order to concentrate only on the sequel.

If the rumors about Overwatch 2 being delayed until 2023 are true, there’s a genuine danger that the brand may die in the eyes of gamers after another year or two without significant upgrades.

Blizzard doesn’t seem to have changed much in terms of art direction for Overwatch 2, but the sequel will attempt to improve upon the original with new game types and other additions. These include new player versus environment (PvE) content such as Hero Missions, as well as a story campaign that should better flesh out each of the shooter’s heroes. Players can also expect some smaller changes like dynamic weather.

That said, if that proves to be true, RIP OW. There’s no chance the game will last another year and a half without significant improvements.
