NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Allegedly Performs Worse Than GeForce GTX 1650 Ti in Dell’s New XPS 15 9510 Laptop

The latest XPS 15 9510 laptop from Dell is a good looking machine, but it’s not without its faults. For example, the laptop’s quad-core Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU can’t seem to scale properly, and the integrated graphics solution (an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti) is also underutilized. Now, a new benchmark report has emerged that shows the results of gaming performance on the new Dell machine.

Not too long ago I published some benchmark results that showed that the GTX 1650 Ti is about equal to the GTX 1660 Ti in terms of performance in the new Dell XPS 15 9510.

Dell’s new XPS 15 9510 is a 15-inch laptop running Windows 10, powered by an Intel Core i7-8750H processor. A few days ago, a video surfaced on YouTube showing the laptop running a benchmark test on Unigine Superposition (a DX12 benchmark). In the video, it is shown that the RTX 3050 Ti runs the benchmark (link: https://youtu.be/Xs6jzZ5m9Kw) much slower than the GTX 1650 Ti, which is used in the RTX 2070. The GTX 1650 Ti has a base clock of 1,645 MHz and a boost clock of 1,920 MHz, and the RTX 3050 Ti has a base clock of

The Dell XPS 15 9510 is a brand-new laptop in the XPS family, but although it has the option of an OLED screen for better image quality, the mobile graphics it’s equipped with are claimed to be nowhere near as nice.

In certain gaming tests, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti laptop GPU found in the Dell XPS 15 manages to be slower than the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti found in its predecessor, the XPS 15 9500, according to one of Notebookcheck’s editors.

One of the more egregious examples comes from CD PROJEKT RED’s The Witcher 3. After a short time of use in the popular action RPG, Notebookcheck discovered that the new XPS 15 with GeForce RTX 3050 Ti will suffer performance reductions of approximately 20%, putting it down to GeForce GTX 1650 Ti levels (a cheap and unspectacular GPU option for the i7).

The GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU didn’t appear to impress even with the Ultra Performance option set on Dell’s XPS 15 notebook, which features power management software that enables users to choose between different profiles, including one for optimizing performance.

The XPS 15’s GeForce RTX 3050 Ti “massively impacts” the performance of its Intel Core i7-11800H CPU, according to Notebookcheck.

The graph [above] depicts a comparison between CPU and graphics card performance during a 30-minute session of The Witcher 3. (Ultra preset). Because the CPU load in this game isn’t very high, we’ll concentrate on the RTX 3050 Ti’s performance. When looking at the power consumption, it’s clear that the new XPS 15 9510 can’t even keep up with the 45W under mixed workloads, as consumption rapidly drops to below 30W with both profiles. This is a pretty disappointing conclusion, as it seems that the gaming performance is now worse than the predecessor.

After a couple of days of testing, I now feel confident in my finding. The GeForce GTX 1650 Ti was capable of up to 55 FPS in 1440p during the game’s benchmark, with the ROPs at 720p the GeForce GTX 3050 Ti was able to produce up to 45 FPS (and this was at a lower res). I had previously expected the card to be capable of 60 FPS, at least. The GeForce RTX 3050 Ti was able to maintain a constant 30 FPS, which is why I originally thought it was worse. I’m not sure why it’s doing worse, but I’m not a fan of either of the two cards. The GTX 1650 Ti is a budget card, but it’s a bit too weak.
