Fractal Design has announced that it will offer free repair kits for damaged fan hubs in its devices, after finding that the plastic used in the production of the company’s cases caused the hubs to become bent, leading to rampant problems with fan noise.
This week, I got an email from one of my readers. “Hey, I’m a skin designer and I’ve been looking for a case for my iPhone that doesn’t have that blasted Apple logo on it. What do you think of these torrent cases that have the Apple logo removed?
Last week, Fractal released the Torrent, a new high-performance PC case, but its introduction was tarnished by a problem with its Nexus 9P Slim PWM fan hubs. Some of them were allegedly damaged during production, posing the risk of a dangerous short circuit. Because of the severity of the problem, Fractal has been forced to rethink the whole circuit board design.
Fractal has thankfully acknowledged the issue and is providing free replacement kits to owners of their new Torrent cases. All users need to do is fill out the replacement kit request form (available here), and one will be delivered to them as soon as feasible.
Meanwhile, Fractal is advising Torrent users to disconnect the fan hub from their cases. The fan hub sits at the case’s bottom front, and it may be removed by unscrewing the three screws in front of it. You can find the full instructions here.
Torrent sales have been temporarily halted until Fractal’s development team is ready to offer an upgraded and safer fan hub. The Torrent comes in a variety of white and black color schemes, with an open grille, newly designed 180 x 38 mm Dynamic X2 PWM or Prisma AL PWM ARGB fans, and a revolutionary architecture that allows for excellent GPU cooling.
Key characteristics of Fractal Torrent:
- Maximize air intake with an open grille and 180 mm front fans.
- The new Dynamic X2 PWM or Prisma AL PWM ARGB (in the RGB version) 180 x 38 mm fans combine power, size, and thickness for enormous air-moving capability.
- Five PWM fans (three 140 mm and two 180 mm) are included to help balance performance, cooling, and noise.
- GPU cooling is improved thanks to a new configuration that includes big base intakes and extra-large bottom fan support.
- Front and bottom nylon filters are optional, enabling the user to choose between dust filtration and increased airflow.
- The open, streamlined design gives components plenty of space to breathe and optimizes performance for both air and water cooling.
- The new Nexus 9P Slim PWM fan hub comes pre-installed.
- Fans and LED lights may be completely controlled by motherboards that enable addressable RGB (3-pin 5V header)
- Support bracket for your GPU that keeps it level (user assembled, instructions included)
- External cable restraints are included for cleaning up behind your computer.
The Torrent comes with a brand-new component layout and two custom-made 180 x 38 mm Dynamic PWM / Prisma RGB fans to optimize cooling capabilities right out of the box. With or without a bespoke water loop, the Torrent is ideal for anybody serious about high-end cooling.
