Battlefield 2042’s Technical Playtest Begins August 12, PC System Requirements Released

I’m pleased to announce that the Battlefield 2042 project has entered its first phase of technical testing. If you’re a PC gamer, you may have heard of Battlefield 4, which was extremely well received by many of you. You may have also heard that Battlefield 4 is being built from the ground up for the next generation of gaming (PC and Xbox One). Well, Battlefield 2042 is being built from the ground up for the next generation of gaming, too! That means the game has to run on a new engine, and that means it needs to undergo a technical test process.

The technical playtest for Battlefield 2042, a science fiction first-person shooter, begins on August 12th! During the playtest, the game’s developers will invite 10,000 participants to actively test Battlefield 4’s multiplayer. The playtest will be a “closed” test for which only Battlefield 4’s developers will participate and use.

The Battlefield series is known as one of the most technically challenging shooters on the market, and that’s for good reason. With the ability to do things like simulate a whole city, 3D models, camouflage, and destructible environments, each game is a technical marvel. However, as awesome as they are, if they’re not fun to play, they’ll lose their appeal and relevance. So, to keep their relevance, the team at DICE is taking a step back to experiment with this first-person shooter series.

EA and DICE have handed out email invitations to the technical playtest for Battlefield 2042, which will begin next week. Select EA playtesters will have access to a limited portion of the game from August 12 to August 15 in order to help DICE test some of the multiplayer-only FPS’s core features, such as cross-play functionality (PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 players will be able to compete against one another during the test). The minimal and recommended system requirements for PC users are shown below. Unlike previous testing like Halo Infinite’s technical multiplayer peek, Battlefield 2042’s technical playtest is subject to a stringent NDA, which means that any video that finds its way onto the internet will almost certainly be removed. Those who aren’t chosen for the technical playtest will be able to play Battlefield 2042 in an open beta before the game’s official release.

[…] a few thousand people will join us to help us test some of our brand-new features and functionality for Battlefield 2042, which we’re creating from the ground up. Keep in mind that the Technical Playtest isn’t meant to be a complete representation of what you’ll see in the Open Beta or at launch. It’s a development-oriented environment with a limited set of features that’s primarily concerned with technical performance.
